The Power of Limits

"Unsquare Dance" 14.5"x10" each

I’ve been receiving welcome feedback about the variety of colors I use. It was of the “I thought you always did this, but now I see you do that too” type.   Pause for thought time and what I can learn from this.

Wherever I am or have been or think I’ll be, I think about color. I try to take my cues from nature. Nature doesn’t scrimp on color and nature always surprises.  The other side of this equation is that I limit my material to one white surface on which I paint, collage and draw with a sewing machine. No reaching for other fabrics – just one called Lutradur – a non-woven industrial material. I limit the material so I can expand the color palette.

As I make my way into blog-time, I’m going to try to limit my words and images. None of us has time to read too much, but we all have time to reflect. So I’ll keep it short and add a couple of pictures. I’ll write when I have a little something to say, and I hope that you will reflect and respond, either to me or in your own work.
Cheers!  Barbara
